A mechanic abused and threatened a woman before setting fire to her apartment building entrance after a dispute about a garage rental.
In 2013, Anthony Markarian messaged back and forth with Jiana Yu over Gumtree after he spotted her garage up for rent.
When Ms Yu rejected the final offer in August, Markarian poured petrol on the front door of her north-west Sydney unit complex and set it alight, Daily Telegraph reported.
Markarian placed Ms Yu’s 12 neighbours, including five children, in danger, but firefighters were able to rescue them from the Eastwood block.

After the fire, Markarian texted Ms Yu: ‘Next time I won’t play with fire, I’ll make you pay with bullets and guns.’
Ms Yu rented the two-bedroom apartment from her parents and posted an ad for the garage on Gumtree for some extra money.
But when she rejected Markarian’s offer, Ms Yu received a barrage of abusive texts.
‘1stly you can kiss my arse im (sic) not your dog,’ Markarian wrote.
He also threatened to report her to Gumtree and hire an interpreter to tell her parents about her money-making scheme.
‘By then you might learn you ain’t in China and some people in this country will give you all the trouble you need,’ he wrote.
‘You might then learn not to f*** people around.’
After setting her apartment building on fire, Markarian called Ms Yu several times from a payphone threatening to abuse her father.
‘If u got the balls send me another message and I’ll show u what playing with fire is,’ he said.
Markarian has since pleaded guilty to damaging property by fire with intent to injure in the NSW District Court, and will be sentenced in March, the publication reported.
